Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger denied trying to send a message to Alexis Sanchez by playing him in the League Cup and Europa League and said midweek minutes have helped the Chilean close in on full fitness after an injury disrupted preseason.

"Alexis Sanchez has been out injured and I thought he was still a bit short physically. I played him last night to give him competition ... I left him on for 90 minutes because I wanted him to have a real go."

ZAGREB, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The World Cup 2018 qualifying match between Croatia and Kosovo that was scheduled for Saturday evening in Zagreb was abandoned after just 22 minutes of play because of the heavy rain that made the playing conditions impossible.
It's been raining in Croatian capital since early hours of Saturday and the pitch at the Maksimir Stadium has been soaked, making it almost impossible to play a proper football match. However, Swedish referee Stefan Johannesson and FIFA Match Commissioner Petr Fousek from Czech Republic made a decision to start the match as scheduled.
From the start of the match it was clear that conditions were dangerous for players and after 22 minutes of play referee gathered both captains Grossiste Air Max Femme , Croatian Luka Modric and Kosovo's Samir Ujkani, for a consultation.
